Contrast is effective in designs
Contrast is an effective design tool because people employ contrast in decision-making. For example, when deciding where to eat out for dinner, you may ask, “Which restaurant has better food?” You are contrasting the food between two different restaurants. Furthermore, creating a brand that significantly contrasts with competitors enables your brand to stand out.
When designing, consider the two types of contrast: visual and cognitive. Visual contrast is the difference in shape, color, and form. Visual contrast is good because if all your content is the same, it will blend in. Your audience will struggle to determine content. Cognitive contrast is the difference in experiences or memories. Cognitive contrast is essential in web design because it makes your webpage stand out and affects your user’s interaction with your interface.
Cognitive contrast is present in effective writing. A writer fails at cognitive contrast when their writings contain clichés. Many clichés are metaphors. Common clichés include “dead as a doornail,” and “raining cats and dogs.” If you’re a writer, brainstorm ideas before composing a metaphor. Original metaphors will render stimulating works.
