Build user personas to focus on your audience
Human-to-human connection is the primary goal of emotional design. One method to ensure this connection is to create user personas, an archetypal user who represents a larger group. Personas are beneficial because they help designers focus on their target audience’s needs. Also, they help designers find the best personality for their brand by choosing a personality that corresponds with their audience.
First, a UX designer needs to interview and research their audience. After gathering a significant amount of information about their target audience, they can create a user persona profile. The user personas profile includes a brand name, overview, personality image, brand traits, personality map, voice, copy examples, visual lexicon, and engagement methods. The goal is to build a user profile that resembles a real human being.
A persona is similar to a writer creating a character. Fiction authors build their stories based on their experiences, especially with characters. In the memoir On Writing, famous novelist Stephen King shares his life experiences that impacted his works. For example, two outcast girls from his high school were the basis of the protagonist in Carrie. If you have fictional writing experience, apply character creation skills to creating a persona.
